ATPL EASA Pilot Programme
The overall programme timetable is as follows;
|Class 1 Medical
|Theory-Blocks 1,2 &3
||9 months (max)
The EASA cadet pilot programme with integrated honours degree, is delivered in the UAE and Portugal over a 32 month period Initially candidates are first required to undergo a thorough screening process in Dubai, at Emirates Aviation University’s Campus, in order to assess motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination, maths & physics and psychological review. Suitable candidates are accepted to proceed either conditionally or unconditionally subject to performance.
Candidates who do not pass the initial maths & physics exams/ or who manage only average scores, are required to undergo our Foundation Programme to ensure that they are adequately prepared for the technical level of the programme. At the end of the Foundation all candidates are re-tested and a final assessment is made.
Ground School will consist of 14 theoretical subjects, followed by 5 flying phases.
Upon successful completion of the ATPL programme, students will graduate with a frozen ATPL licence as well as an Advanced Diploma in Aviation Science awarded by EAU. All necessary materials will be provided for the student to undertake the course, including uniforms.
Dubai: Screening, 1 week
During the screening week candidates are tested on:
- Psychometric and motor skills ( Compass test)
- Personal interview
- Maths & Physics proficiency exam
- English proficiency
- Class 1 Medical ( Lisbon)
Subject to satisfactory performance, the student will be able to progress to the flying academy in Portugal.
Dubai: Foundation, 5 months
The foundation programme offers students a thorough grounding in the principles of aviation, which will ensure they are ready to take on the demanding theoretical studies required to become a pilot. Subjects will include Maths & Physics, and a variety of ATPL related subjects including;
- Maths for Engineers
- Principles and application of Aircraft mechanical science
- Theory of Flight
- Aircraft Electrical Devices and Circuits
Portugal: Theory Duration 9 months

The total duration of the Theory is 9 months based on a mandatory classroom attendance of 6 hours/ day. The programme significantly exceeds the requirement for Ground School delivery for taught hours, in excess of 100 hours above the EASA legal requirement of 750 hours, to ensure that candidates have the best opportunity to succeed and have a thorough grounding in the EASA subjects.
The theory is delivered as follows;
Theory Block 1*

- AGK-Air Frames
- Mass & Balance
- Principles of Flight
- VFR Communications
Theory Block 2*
- Human Performance & Limitations
- IFR Communications
Theory Block 3*

Final Year Degree (Dubai) 9 months
Successful completion of the ATPL will allow students to enter the final year top up degree which is dually awarded by both EAU and Coventry University in the UK.
The EAU award is recognised by the National Qualifications Authority (NQA) in the UAE. Students will graduate with a BSc (Hons.) in Air Transport Management.
