EASA Pilot Training programme with integrated BSc (Hons.) degree in Air Transport Management

Overview

The EAU BSc (Hons.) with integrated EASA approved ATPL, AB-INITIO Pilot Programme is delivered in the UAE and Portugal within 32 months. The programme is structured as Foundation in Dubai, UAE and Theory /Practical in Portugal. The Foundation will offer a solid basis for students to fully comprehend the technical subjects that they will encounter for the main element of the programme. This programme will provide students with both a professional and academic qualification. Airlines are increasingly looking for candidates that have achieved degree status and the EAU programme provides both in an exceptional package in less time than a student would ordinarily take to undertake a degree alone.

Successful completion of the course will lead to:

  • BSc (Hons.) in Air Transport Management
  • EASA, ATPL (A) Frozen Licence
  • EASA CPL License with IR, SE and ME ratings

Graduates of the programme will have the option to enroll in the university's one year Top Up Degree Programme and obtain a BSc (Hons.) in Air Transport Management.

Programme Overview

The EASA cadet pilot programme with integrated honours degree, is delivered in the UAE and Portugal over a 32 month period Initially candidates are first required to undergo a thorough screening process in Dubai, at Emirates Aviation University’s Campus, in order to assess motor skills, hand-eye co-ordination, maths & physics and psychological review. Suitable candidates are accepted to proceed either conditionally or unconditionally subject to performance.

Candidates who do not pass the initial maths & physics exams/ or who manage only average scores, are required to undergo our Foundation Programme to ensure that they are adequately prepared for the technical level of the programme. At the end of the Foundation all candidates are re-tested and a final assessment is made.

Ground School will consist of 14 theoretical subjects, followed by 5 flying phases.

Upon successful completion of the ATPL programme, students will graduate with a frozen ATPL licence as well as an Advanced Diploma in Aviation Science awarded by EAU. All necessary materials will be provided for the student to undertake the course, including uniforms.

Dubai: Screening, 1 week

During the screening week candidates are tested on:

  • Psychometric and motor skills ( Compass test)
  • Personal interview
  • Maths & Physics proficiency exam
  • English proficiency
  • Class 1 Medical ( Lisbon)

Subject to satisfactory performance, the student will be able to progress to the flying academy in Portugal.

Dubai: Foundation, 5 months

The foundation programme offers students a thorough grounding in the principles of aviation, which will ensure they are ready to take on the demanding theoretical studies required to become a pilot. Subjects will include Maths & Physics, and a variety of ATPL related subjects including;

  • Maths for Engineers
  • Principles and application of Aircraft mechanical science
  • Theory of Flight
  • Aircraft Electrical Devices and Circuits

Portugal: Theory Duration 9 months

The Theory part of the programme is delivered in Dubai in 3 blocks at our campus in Academic City. The total duration of the Theory is 9 months based on a mandatory classroom attendance of 6 hours/ day. The programme significantly exceeds the requirement for Ground School delivery for taught hours, in excess of 100 hours above the EASA legal requirement of 750 hours, to ensure that candidates have the best opportunity to succeed and have a thorough grounding in the EASA subjects.

The theory is delivered as follows;

Theory Block 1*

  • Air Law
  • AGK-Air Frames
  • AGK-Instruments
  • Mass & Balance
  • Principles of Flight
  • VFR Communications

Theory Block 2*

Simulator 40
MCC

Total flight hours (real & synthetic) 220 hours

Successful completion of the above Theory and Practical phases will lead to an ATPL (A) frozen Licence & HD in Aviation Science, being issued.

Final Year Degree (Dubai) 9 months

Successful completion of the ATPL will allow students to enter the final year top up degree which is dually awarded by both EAU and Coventry University in the UK.

The EAU award is recognised by the National Qualifications Authority (NQA) in the UAE. Students will graduate with a BSc (Hons.) in Air Transport Management.

Entry Requirements(Dubai)

High school certificate Grade 12 or equivalent. Minimum age is 17 years old. Candidates must have a minimum IELTS score of 5.0 in Academic English, or equivalent. Emirates Aviation University (EAU) offers a Foundation English course for candidates below this threshold.

VISA: EAU cannot guarantee the UAE and Schengen visas but will offer full support to candidates to facilitate their visas to register as a student including liaising with the relevant authorities.

Class 1 Medical (Portugal)

Candidates will undertake a Class 1 medical in Portugal, to ensure that they are fit enough to join the programme. This is mandatory for pilot training. This is undertaken at Foundation level to ensure that should a candidate not be medically suitable, then they do not incur further costs of the main programme.

If candidates are concerned about their fitness for the programme, we advise them to seek a medical review as soon as they can. We can advise as to where they can go in Dubai to undertake similar tests to the Class 1 medical ( although the official medical must be undertaken in a European country). Please note that weight can be an issue with respect to the practical flying element of the programme. Candidates ideally should be under 90kg. Over this weight threshold may require the use of a larger training aircraft with additional costs.
