The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Air Transport Management programme provides students with an opportunity to gain an insight into all aspects of air transport management including airline and airport management, aviation strategy, together with a solid foundation in essential business practice.

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Air Transport Management is a one-year top-up programme delivered in full-time and part-time modes, that is designed to ‘top up ‘students’ existing vocational qualifications (e.g. UAE Higher Diploma, UK Higher National Diploma, Air Transport Pilot License) to a bachelor’s degree. It has been designed in line with international standards and aims to provide a high-quality business education with a strong focus on the aviation industry. The curriculum is carefully designed to integrate core business courses with more specialised Air Transport Management courses that focus on topics relevant to aviation, airline and airport management, as detailed in the illustrative study plan.

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Air Transport Management award is conferred by Coventry University, UK and recognised by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai

Mode Of Delivery

There are two delivery modes:

  • A full- time delivery mode with three modules delivered each semester over two semesters.
  • Or a part-time delivery mode with 6 courses delivered over a period of one year. The courses will be completed independently, with one course every two months, delivered in 5 consecutive day blocks over 40 hours.

Knowledge and understanding

On successful completion of this programme a student should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

KU1     the operation of organisations in the aviation industry, the role and practices of the various business functions within those organisations, and their external environment

KU2     the processes, principles and practices fundamental to the operation of airports and terminal facilities that support air transport operations

KU3     the processes, principles, and practices fundamental to the operation of airline companies, including elements of management practice in the industry

KU4     established methods for the analysis and design of solutions for air transport problems and the management of the air transport function in a variety of national and international contexts

KU5     a range of current and emerging business and management issues affecting the aviation industry

Cognitive skills

On successful completion of the programme a student should be able to:

CS1      undertake a problem analysis and exercise reasoned judgement in assessing business and technical requirements

CS2      conduct effective problem solving, design, and decision making using appropriate quantitative and qualitative skills in the identification, formulation and solution of business and technical problems

CS3      synthesise requirements and opportunities in order to recommend appropriate air transport management policies

Practical skills

On successful completion of the programme a student should be able to:

PS1      conduct research into technical and management issues being familiar with a range of data, research sources, and appropriate methodologies

PS2      apply numeracy and the quantitative skills involved in data analysis, interpretation, and modelling of problems and phenomena in the aviation industry

PS3      select and use appropriate methods of information and communications technology for business and air transport applications

PS4      demonstrate an awareness of professional responsibilities, including an understanding of the associated ethical and legal issues

Transferable skills

On successful completion of the programme a student should be able to:

TS1      work to deadlines both individually with initiative and enterprise, and within teams, showing evidence of influencing and project management skills

TS2      apply professional, interpersonal and transferable skills, using a range of relevant media in a variety of situations, so as to communicate effectively

TS3      accept responsibility for their own learning and the need for continuing professional development

Minimum Admission Requirements Proficiency Requirements

Must meet any of the below requirements:

  • Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (LAME)
  • Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL)
  • Higher Diploma in Business Management or equivalent
  • Higher National Diploma (BTEC Level 5) or equivalent

The following minimum test scores are acceptable for non-native speakers:

  • IELTS 5.0
  • TOEFL IBT 61
