The Masters in Aviation Safety and Aviation Security MASAS programme is designed for students who wish to further their knowledge and experience of aviation safety or aviation security or both together.
The areas of Aviation Safety or Aviation Security are closely related and the Master of Science in Aviation Safety / Master of Science in Aviation Security programmes contain five modules that are core to both and deal with common issues such as risk management, human factors, strategy, operations and planning.
Fundamentally, however, safety relates to measures that are taken against the threat of an accident, while security refers to protection from threats motivated by hostility or malice. Each programme therefore contains three specialist modules that enable students to consider in depth the different areas of regulations and compliance, design, use of technologies and systems that are associated with these different perspectives. Further specialisation is achieved through the Project which is required to focus on a topic that is aligned with the specialist area.
By completing five core and three specialised modules, plus a subject area Project, students may obtain an Master of Science in either Aviation Safety or Aviation Security. If they wish to obtain a second Master of Science in the alternate specialisation on top of the first award, learners may complete the three additional specialised modules plus a second Project in the other subject area.
The following qualification is also available as an exit award:
Obtain a PgDip in Aviation Safety by completing 8 modules of the Master of Science in Aviation Safety programme.
The MASAS programme is one of very few degree programmes in the world to address those needs. The awards provide graduates with knowledge of management, safety and security issues in aviation, and the ability to establish or administer safety or security programs in business, industry, or government. The programme offers the graduate student a professional capstone for any background in aviation.
The programme is accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, UAE. The programme is recognised by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), UK. Students that successfully complete the programme have the option of obtaining a Coventry University certificate in addition to Emirates Aviation University award.
Career Prospects
The exponential growth of the aviation sector requires a parallel growth in appropriate specialized qualifications that provides employers with an element of confidence in the ever changing and complex business environment. The MASAS programme comes as an ideal opportunity for applicants seeking growth or new opportunities in the field.
A typical student may have a number of years' experience in his or her particular field of safety or security expertise (or may simply be seeking a career change towards those fields). The student may probably already be in a junior or middle management role (or seeking an upgrade). He or she may probably have an enthusiasm to implement safety or security management systems across departmental boundaries.
On graduation the student will gain a Dual Award qualification from two internationally respected institutions. The graduate will be ready to shoulder a significant level of responsibility for defining and implementing the employer's safety or security policy.
Upon the completion of the master’s programme, opportunities also exist to complete a PhD research degree at Emirates Aviation University awarded by Coventry University, UK.
Eighteen months, part time.
The programme is delivered on a part-time basis, in five day blocks per module, held every two months. Modules span the weekend to facilitate minimum disruption for participants in full time employment.
