The Bachelor of Art (Honours) in Applied Business is designed to provide students with an opportunity to gain an insight into different aspects of general business which will provide a solid foundation in essential business practice.  

The Bachelor of Art (Honours) in Applied Business is a one-year “Top Up” programme offered on part-time delivery mode that is designed to “top up” the students’ existing vocational qualification (e.g. UAE Higher Diploma, UK Higher National Diploma, Air Transport Pilot License) to a bachelor degree. It has been designed in line with international standards and aims to provide a high quality business education. The curriculum is carefully designed to integrate core business and specialised courses as detailed in the illustrative study plan.

Why enrol on this programme?

Students will gain understanding of how the business sector operates, the challenges involved in managing a business and what makes it successful. Students will study a variety of  core business courses  such  as global logistics, project management, business strategy, financial services and sales and merchandising. The final module is an extensive research project.

Accreditation 

The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Applied Business award is conferred by Emirates Aviation University and Coventry University, UK. The EAU award is recognised by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), Dubai

Mode of delivery 

The part-time delivery mode includes 6 courses delivered over a period of one year. The courses will be completed independently, one course every two months in 5 consecutive day blocks of delivery over 40 hours

On successful completion of this programme a student should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

KU1     a variety of types of organisation, the external environment and its effect upon strategy, behaviour and management.

KU2     the internal aspects, functions and processes of organisations, together with the individual and corporate behaviours and cultures which exist and their influence upon the external environment.

KU2T   the concepts and characteristics of tourism, its products and structures and its role in a national and international context.

KU3     the various processes, procedures and practices for effective management of organisations with an emphasis upon understanding and responding to change.

KU4     markets, customers, finance, people, operations, information systems, and strategy, together with specific areas of contemporary opportunities for graduates

KU4T   the nature and characteristics of tourists in a particular destination.

Cognitive skills

On successful completion of the programme a student should be able to:

CS1      undertake problem analysis, critically evaluate statements against evidence, detect false reasoning, and identify implicit values in assessing business needs

CS2      conduct effective problem solving and decision making using appropriate quantitative and qualitative skills in the identification, formulation and solution of business problems

CS3      synthesise requirements, create, evaluate and assess a range of options in order to recommend appropriate actions

Practical skills

On successful completion of the programme a student should be able to:

PS1      conduct research into business and management issues being familiar with a range of business data, research sources, and appropriate methodologies

PS2      apply numeracy and the quantitative skills involved in data analysis, interpretation, extrapolation and the modelling of business problems and phenomena

PS3      select and use appropriate methods of information and communications technology for business applications

Transferable skills

On successful completion of the programme a student should be able to:

TS1      work to deadlines both individually with initiative and enterprise, and within teams, showing evidence of influencing and project management skills

TS2      apply professional, interpersonal and transferable skills so as to communicate effectively, including listening, negotiating, and persuading, using a range of relevant media in a variety of situations

TS3      accept responsibility for their own learning and the need for continuing professional development

TS4      demonstrate a reflective and mature approach to personal development in relation to academic study, professional advancement, and a sensitivity to diversity in terms of people and cultures in business.

Higher Diploma or Higher National Diploma (BTEC Level 5) in a relevant field or equivalent*

*Notes and remarks:

  • Applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements for the program's relevant requirement(s) may be required to complete the EAU entrance exam or a non-credit remedial course.
  • Students who completed their previous qualification in English are exempt from English requirements. Otherwise, students will be required to provide / complete one of the following:
    • IELTS Academic with a minimum score of 5.0
    • TOFEL iBT with a minimum score of 61
    • EAU English Test
    • Complete non-credited Foundation English Course with EAU
