Professional Education Flight Dispatcher—Abridged Course (FD-AbC)

The Flight Dispatcher – Abridged Course (FD-AbC) is applicable for candidates, who meet the experience requirements of CAR Part II Chapter 6, as well as EAU former students, who have not completed their OJT within a reasonable time and/or have not passed the oral and practical exam within one, but less than two years of completion of the full course.
An individual with relevant experience can also apply for this course as per approval of the GCAA and in compliance with CAR Part II Chapter 6-FD.030.
Applicants authorized by the GCAA to complete the FD-AbC will need to sit for a 2 hour entry exam to determine suitability for the programme. Only those, who score more than 75% will be allowed to attend this course. Those who score less than 75% will be required to undertake the full 10-week Flight Dispatcher Programme. Upon successful completion of the course, trainee will be issued a Certificate of Course Completion (passed Oral & Practical exam). To obtain a Certificate of Course Attendance, for those who do not require a GCAA license, a trainee needs to pass the EAU FD final exam and have full attendance record for the course.

Security (Emergency and Abnormal Situations)
Flight Planning & Monitoring (Practical Dispatching)

Should students fail their Module Tests, they can take the test again until the third attempt.

Pass mark will be limited to 75% for retakes.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum age 21
  • Very good command of English. As this is a technical course, we recommend a minimum IELTS 6.0.
  • Have a good understanding of basic Mathematics and Physics

Qualification Requirements

A. A total of two years of service in any one or in any combination of the capacities specified in i) to iii) inclusive, provided that in any combination of experience the period serviced in any capacity shall be at least one year:

  1. A flight crew member in air transportation holding or have a CPL with IR or ATPL license; or
  2. A meteorologist in an organization dispatching aircraft in air transportation; or
  3. An Air Traffic Controller; or a Technical Supervisor of Flight Operations Officers Or air transportation flight operations systems; or

B. At least one year as an unlicensed Flight Dispatcher or two years as an assistant in the dispatching of air transport; or

C. Currently working as a Flight Dispatcher in a UAE company with a valid Air Operator Certificate (AOC) in commercial and air transport operation.

Additional Examination Fees

  • Oral/Practical Exam Fees: AED 1,220 + 5% VAT.
  • Oral/Practical Exam Fees Re-Take: AED 1,220+ 5% VAT.
  • EAU Admin processing fee: AED 360 + 5% VAT
  • GCAA Licence fee: AED 900 – to be paid on-line in GCAA website after e-licensing application is done. Link will be sent to applicants. .

All of the above fees are to be paid to the EAU finance. For the oral/ practical exams, the receipt must be presented to the FDIC AbC Administrator who will generate the list of names to the FDIC examiner. Candidates are advised to submit a copy of the receipt to the administrator.
