Prof. Hossein Zare-Behtash is a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (FIMechE), Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS), Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AFAIAA).
He Began his academic career at the University of Manchester, UK, where he completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Aerospace Engineering. Following his PhD, he took up the post of Knowledge Transfer Fellow at the University of Manchester. He has been Assistant and later Associate Professor at the University of Glasgow (2013–2024), where he led the development of advanced compressible flow facilities, secured significant national and international funding, producing a strong publication record, and graduating multiple PhD students, with notable collaborations including the European Space Agency (ESA) and NASA. He subsequently held the position of Reader (Associate Professor) at the University of Southampton (2024–2025).
His research focuses on supersonic and hypersonic aerodynamics, high-speed propulsion, and advanced molecular imaging and sensing techniques, in-situ resource utilization (ISRU), rocket plume-regolith interactions, and planetary exploration.
